
Infrastructure WA has released its State Infrastructure Strategy Implementation Progress Report 2024, outlining the Western Australian Government’s efforts to implement actions identified in the 2022 Strategy.
Under the Infrastructure Western Australia Act 2019 (IWA Act), state agencies and government trading enterprises are required to align their strategies, plans and policies with the state infrastructure strategy (Strategy) and implement the supported recommendations that are relevant to them.
In line with the IWA Act, Infrastructure WA is also required to report annually on government’s progress in implementing the Strategy’s recommendations.
The implementation progress report covers the period from July 2023 to June 2024.
It identifies that as of 30 June 2024, the Western Australian Government is making good progress in implementing actions identified in the 2022 Strategy.
Of the 156 actions committed to by the Western Australian Government:
- Four have not been commenced
- Three have been discontinued
Progress has been made on sustainability initiatives such as the sectoral emissions reduction strategy for Western Australia, published in December 2023. The development of an emissions reduction framework, a climate risk framework and a whole-of-government urban greening strategy is progressing.
Implementation of actions relating to planning and coordination have also advanced. These include:
- Expanding the application of the Infrastructure Development Fund
- Progress on METRONET station precinct planning
- Drafting of eight regional planning strategies
- The development and implementation of activation roadmaps for various strategic industrial areas across the state
