Progress reported on NAIF works
The Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) has reported on its impact across the country’s north, with $148.3 million in drawdowns and growing Indigenous engagement recorded for the March 2025 quarter.
The latest quarterly snapshot shows NAIF has now reached $4.4 billion in committed loans and $4.1 billion at contractual close, supporting 32 projects across Western Australia, Queensland, the Northern Territory and the Indian Ocean Territories.
NAIF says the cumulative public benefit of these investments is forecast at $38.2 billion – equating to $8.70 of benefit for every dollar financed.
Infrastructure projects backed by NAIF are expected to generate over 19,500 jobs, with key investments in critical minerals ($855 million), transport and logistics ($693 million), and energy generation ($737 million), among others.
NAIF says progress continues across its project pipeline, which tracks developments from initial enquiry to financial close.
Currently, $4.4 billion in prospective projects are moving through various pipeline stages, including due diligence and execution.
Indigenous outcomes remain a core element of NAIF’s mandate. Proponents must provide an Indigenous Engagement Strategy outlining employment, participation, and procurement goals.
The latest figures show Indigenous procurement spending has exceeded $120 million since 2018–19, while Indigenous employment outcomes continue to climb.
Four proponents have now fully repaid loans totalling $325 million, which NAIF says reinforces its model of recyclable, repayable financing.
Western Australia leads in total public benefit, at $23.3 billion, followed by Queensland ($11 billion) and the Northern Territory ($3.9 billion).
