Inland Rail training course supporting new careers

Seventeen Shepparton locals have graduated from a three-day Inland Rail training course, designed to offer a route towards a career in rail.

Held at the Rumbalara Football Club in Shepparton, the Inland Rail Skills Academy Rail Readiness course offered participants an understanding of the requirements for a career in rail and construction.

Focusing on safety, mental fitness, psychosocial hazards, workplace readiness and being fit for duty in the sector, the course aimed to provide valuable insights into the rail industry.

The Inland Rail Skills Academy works with contractors and key community stakeholders to understand both industry and community challenges and identify mutually beneficial solutions.

The course was delivered in partnership with high-performance mentoring and training organisation, Yakka Training, and was designed to provide support for individuals thinking about a career in rail.

Inland Rail is committed to delivering strong opportunities for regional and First Nations communities through education, training, skills development, and employment.

Inland Rail Executive Director of Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability, Stephen Jones, said that Inland Rail’s core values are collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence, all of which are represented in its work with Yakka Training.

“By encouraging people to enter the rail industry, we are opening doorways to careers which look to our core values every day as we build Inland Rail,” Mr Jones said.

“The rail industry provides a rewarding and ongoing career path, and we want to upskill people who share our values, regardless of their story.

“Inland Rail has provided considerable regional employment and business opportunities since the project commenced.”
