Transport for NSW has urged Sydney rail users to avoid unnecessary travel and plan ahead, due to lengthy delays and cancellations caused by continued industrial action.
On Friday 14 February, Sydney’s rail network saw severe disruption to train services due to an unprecedented level of unplanned and unnotified staff absences.
Significant impacts are expected to continue over the following week.
Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink are urging employees to return to work and help run a regular timetable. There is no ‘lockout’ in place and all staff undertaking their normal duties will be paid.
Parents of school children who would normally catch the train have been urged to arrange alternative travel if possible.
Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink have apologised to its passengers for the disruption as staff work hard to minimise the impacts of the industrial action.
The matter is set to be heard in a full bench hearing of the Fair Work Commission on Wednesday 19 February.
