Vic Gov kicks off major road works

The Victorian Government has begun major road rebuilding works in Noorat as part of the biggest single-year investment in road maintenance in the state’s history.

Crews are on the ground rebuilding 2.3km section of MacKinnons Bridge-Noorat Road in Noorat, which is one of the most intensive projects as part of this year’s $964 million road maintenance blitz.

Targeting a section of road between the Princes Highway and Blacks Drive, the rehabilitation works are set to be completed by the end of April.

During these works, single lane closures will be in place, along with reduced speed limits, and traffic management teams will help drivers travel safely through the site.

These works follow major upgrades to the 3.5km section of Terang-Mortlake Road, near McCrae Street, which is set to be completed next month.

The road will be completely rebuilt from the ground up, strengthening its surface and ensuring its longevity for the years to come.

Between now and June 2025, crews are completing thousands of individual projects to rebuild, repair, and resurface roads Victorian drivers rely on right across the state – with around 70 per cent of funding going towards regional roads.

Warmer conditions are more suitable for major roadworks, and drivers can expect to see workers deployed across the state, delivering these important road works.

Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Melissa Horne, said, “Our crews are working tirelessly to rebuild, repair and resurface roads right across the state as part of our $964 million investment in road maintenance.

“Through this record investment, we’re ensuring that roads in the south west, like MacKinnons Bridge-Noorat and Terang-Mortlake Roads, are stronger, smoother, and built to last.”

Local Member for Western Victoria, Jacinta Ermacora, said, “Crews are out right now rebuilding MacKinnons Bridge-Noorat Road to ensure this road remains durable and dependable for our drivers who rely on it each and every day.”
